About me

Chris Carbone is in his 5th year of studies in the Architectural Engineering Program at The Pennsylvania State University. With a Structural focus, he will graduate with a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering Degree in May 2017. Chris is involved in the Penn State Chapter of Structural Engineers Association, as the Professional Relations Chair, and in the Student Society of Architectural Engineers as a member.

Following a 7-week study abroad program in Rome, Italy, Chris obtained a Minor in Architecture. During his study abroad, Chris learned about the architectural history of Italy, while being engulfed in the Italian culture.

During the summer of 2017, Chris participated in a structural engineering internship with McCarthy and Associates, a Division of Pennoni, in Clearwater, Florida. This internship provided him with valuable experience in structural design, analysis, investigation, inspection, and professional communication with design teams. During the Spring of 2018, he interned part time with the State College office of Pennoni. Chris passed the FE Exam in the spring of 2017, and will be EIT status upon graduation. In the short term, he is excited to begin working as a structural engineer in a design firm, and to gain knowledge and experience that can be applied toward obtaining his Professional Engineering License (PE), and then Structural Engineering License (SE).

Outside of academics, Chris enjoys the outdoors, playing soccer, and traveling.

Upon graduation, Chris will be moving to Philadelphia, PA to work full time for Pennoni.

The Capstone Project Electronic Portfolio (CPEP) is a web‐based project and information center. It contains material produced for a year‐long Senior Thesis class. Its purpose, in addition to providing central storage of individual assignments, is to foster communication and collaboration between student, faculty consultant, course instructors, and industry consultants. This website is dedicated to the research and analysis conducted via guidelines provided by the Department of Architectural Engineering. For an explanation of this capstone design course and its requirements click here.

Note: While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work‐in progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Christopher Carbone. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.
